A torsion spring is a spring that works by twisting its ends along its axis. That is, a flexible elastic object can store mechanical energy when twisted. When twisted, it applies a torque in the opposite direction that is proportional to the amount it is twisted.
Torsion springs provide resistance to twisting or torque action and are usually tightly wound like extension springs, but with minimal initial tension. There are two types: single-body and double-body torsion springs. The spring legs/ends ultimately provide the required force in the mechanism.
